With a population of 4,086. Temora is an old, Riverina goldmining town at the heart of good wheat and horse country, renowned for producing some of the finest harness racers in Australia. The first white settlement in the Temora District occurred in the 1850s and 1860s with large runs being established by the early selectors. Temora was home to more than 20,000 people during the gold rushes of the 1880s. One of Australia's largest and most famous nuggets, 'Mother Shipton' was found here. As the gold declined, Temora continued as the service centre for a developing wheat growing district. The railway reached Temora in 1893.
