Geoffrey Morton AM CDRE RANR

Geoffrey Morton's distinguished career includes commanding the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) Air Station at Nowra. He has extensive experience and connections with a wide cross section of civil and military aviation communities in Australia and the US . He holds a private pilot's license with a command instrument rating as well as a glider instructor's rating and a glider towing endorsement.  His early flying experience was in gliders and later he trained on Tiger Moths and Chipmunks in the UK. He continues his association with the Tiger Moth flying the Museum’s Tiger as a member of the THFC.

Geoff’s Navy Career spanned 39 years and included postings to a wide range of ships from Mine Sweepers to Destroyers as well as the aircraft carrier HMAS MELBOURNE.  He was also fortunate to serve in both the UK and the USA on training and staff appointments.

His sea commands include the Amphibious Ship HMAS TOBRUK, which at the time was the largest air capable ship in the RAN, and the Guided Missile Destroyer HMAS BRISBANE.  He also commanded the RAN officer training establishment HMAS CRESWELL, at Jervis Bay.

His senior executive appointments included heading the RAN’s Training Command in Victoria, and serving as the Deputy Maritime Commander at Fleet Headquarters in Sydney. In August 1996 he and his family travelled to the USA to take up the position of Australian Naval Attaché', Washington and Naval Advisor, Ottawa, where he served until January 2000.

He was made a Member of The Order of Australia (AM) in the 1999 Queen's Birthday Honors List and retired from the RAN on 3 March 2000. He and his family now live on the Sunshine Coast where he operates a consulting business.
